Over the Summer of 2024 I was an animation intern at Laika Studios. During that time I was fortunate enough to use their remarkable new "Intern Test Puppet" to conduct a series of animation exercises. The final products are a result of much effort and the incredible critique and guidance of the talented Laika animators.
Performance
This was the final project from the internship, and we were assigned to animate a performance that showcases a character going through a series of distinct emotions. I ultimately decided on anticipation-joy-embarrassment.
Walk In Place
This was the most challenging project from the internship, I did 3 separate passes at hero animation. In the first, the top half was great, in the second the bottom half was great, the final piece seen here was the third and combined the two.
Walk Across Screen
This was a challenging but enjoyable assignment, the most difficult part was keeping track of the puppets weight and making sure it doesn't look like it's strobing.
Pose Gallery
The first week of the internship was entirely dedicated to posing. And I honestly had a blast going though these. I made as many poses as I could, and very much enjoyed channel little snapshots of characters with each unique pose.
